The u3a enables people – usually in later life – to take part in a range of stimulating activities. People get together to develop old interests or discover new ones. It is about getting involved and having fun - not about qualifications. We now have about 1600 members and over 140 interest groups (select here to see the full range) as well as a Summer Programme, one off Study Days and Saturday Talks.
It was founded in 1997 as part of a UK-wide movement - our parent organisation is the Third Age Trust, a national charity. It is managed by a Committee of Trustees (select here for information and contact details).

Our groups cater for a wide range of interests and ability levels. New ones are being formed all the time and we are always keen to hear about new ideas for groups. There’s lots going on, so it is very likely you’ll find something of interest at a place and time convenient for you. You can join one group or many – it’s up to you. Please note some popular groups have waiting lists.

Our membership year begins on 01 August and ends on 31 July.
Many of our members, but by no means all, live in and around Ilkley and the neighbouring towns.
Whilst there is no upper or lower age limit, a typical member is no longer in full time work. We are a volunteer-led charity in which everyone is encouraged to help in any way they can.
