The u3a is a UK-wide movement which brings together people - usually past the years of full time work and/or raising a family - who wish to take part in a range of stimulating activities to keep their minds and bodies active. The u3a focuses on enjoyment not qualifications, and on doing things together rather than alone.
Ilkley & District u3a was
founded in 1997 and is now one of the largest in Yorkshire with over
1500 members and more than 130 interest groups. In addition, we organise
a summer programme, one off study days, and Saturday talks.
Our parent organisation is the national charity known as the Third Age Trust, which oversees the activities of over 1,000 u3as like ours throughout the UK.

Our groups cater for a wide range of interests and ability levels. New ones are being formed all the time and we are always keen to hear about new ideas for groups. Most activities take place on weekdays, at different times and in different locations. There’s lots going on, so it is very likely you’ll find something of interest at a place and time convenient for you. You can join one group or many – it’s up to you. Please note some popular groups have waiting lists.
You can join a group once you have completed a membership application and paid the annual membership fee. Our membership year begins on 01 August and ends on 31 July.
We welcome anyone who is free to take part in activities during the day and who can travel to our venues, which are located in and around Ilkley.
Many of our members, but by no means all, live in and around Ilkley and the neighbouring towns.
Whilst there is no upper or lower age limit, a typical member is no longer in full time work. We are a volunteer-led charity in which everyone is encouraged to help in any way they can.
