John Parker of our Art Appreciation Group starts by looking back 3 million years to the beginnings of aesthetic appreciation with an ironstone cobble. Also briefly about early hominids who engaged in this: homo hablis, homo erectus, neanderthal and homo sapiens (us).
Moving on to the last 40,000 years up to the Bronze Age. This includes the amazing and often accomplished art including cave painting, musical instruments, carving and the first ceramics. Also something about the mystery implicit in these works.
Questions and comment, even debate, welcome. John says he is not an expert in this field - only someone who is fascinated by it.
Free tea and coffee available at break time during the event.
