This four-session course explores the rise, sound, struggles, and lasting influence of Stax Records, the Memphis-based label that helped define Southern soul.

From Otis Redding and Booker T. & the M.G.'s to Isaac Hayes and the label's dramatic collapse, the course places Stax within the cultural, racial, and economic realities of mid-20th-century America.

Each session will be around 90 minutes (with a short break), followed by a Q&A, and music samples will be used throughout to help demonstrate the subject matter.

Refreshments are not provided, but there are a number of cafés within a short distance of the venue.

Use the door on the right of the building, the room is straight ahead. Fully accessible.

This event is for existing members only.

If you haven't already, please log in to register.

Once registered, you will receive an email confirmation.
