Enjoy a visit to this Heritage Railway with some fascinating history and stunning scenery. Join our 50-seater coach at the following pick-up points:
- Addingham: 8am
- Ilkley 8:15 am
- Burley in Wharfedale 8:35 am
- Otley 8:50 am
Then non-stop to Leeming Bar Station arriving at 10 am in time for coffee and bathroom breaks.
10:30 am. We will split into groups for an introduction to the railway, a tour of the station features and a visit to the engine sheds.
11:30 am. We board our own private train for the short trip to the recently restored station at Scruton where we can see just why the station won the prestigious Railway Heritage Trust Conservation Award in 2015 for its exceptional restoration. Completed between 2011 and 2014, the project restored the 1848 Victorian station, which is now an award-winning heritage education resource for schools.
12:20 pm. Our train takes us back to Leeming Bar for lunch.
Bring your own picnic. The station café will be open for drinks and snacks. There is a co-op close by. If it rains, covered accommodation will be available.
13:30 pm. We join a normal service train to travel through some stunning scenery, arriving at Leyburn 50 minutes later. A 20 minute break to stretch your legs before catching the return service to Leeming Bar.
We should be home around 18:30 pm, subject to traffic.
The cost including coach travel and our visit to the railway is £41. When your place is confirmed you will receive an email requesting payment by bank transfer to Ilkley & District u3a Railway Group.
If you are unable to pay electronically, you will be able to reply to the confirmation email with details of how you would like to pay, and we will do our best to help.
You will be asked to provide the following information:
1. Confirmation that £41 payment has been made
2. Confirmation of where you wish to join the party. The choices are Addingham, Ilkley, Burley or Otley.
3. Your mobile phone number for use on the day. (if available)
4. Details of someone for us to contact in the event of problems occurring on the day. (optional)
