Ancient Trees and Ancient Woodland of Yorkshire Alan Hunton
Ancient Trees and Ancient Woodland in Yorkshire: In this talk Alan will introduce the work of the Woodland Trust which includes the creation of new woodland and the restoration of damaged sites. He shall discuss the value of preserving our critically important ancient woodland and understanding how important our ancient trees are for wildlife. The talk will be illustrated with examples of specific woods and trees in Yorkshire.
Alan Hunton: After a career as a chemist in the oil, coal and plastics industries, Alan decided to repay his debt to the environment, and became a volunteer for the Woodland Trust. The Woodland Trust is the largest woodland conservation society in the UK. The charity was founded in 1972 and has worked to preserve the ancient woodland that remains in the UK, to restore conifer plantations to a balance of native trees, and, when the charity can afford it, to create new woodland. The ambition is to double the number of trees we have by 2050.
Entrance is FREE
Free tea or coffee and a biscuit served from 10.00 when the doors open. The talk starts promptly at 10.30.
