ILKLEY & DISTRICT u3a

Tales from the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway

  • 30 Jun 2025
  • 2:15 PM - 4:00 PM
  • JLA, Clarke Foley Centre, Cunliffe Road, Ilkley, LS29 9DZ

Many of us will have travelled on this railway, taken the kids or grandchildren and enjoyed the nostalgia associated with the steam trains of our youth.

But what is the history of this line? How do they keep the trains running? Learn about the challenges of restoring and maintaining locomotives many of which are getting on for 100 years old. And when you employ two Santas on the Christmas Specials, how do you stop them meeting each other? And why is The Railway Children still bringing visitors?

Join Joseph Shaw and Steve Daly from the KWVR who will attempt to answer these questions and more. Next time you travel on this, or any other heritage railway, you will see it in a new light.

If the idea of this event appeals, why not consider joining our Railways Group? See as at the showcase event on 21st June or select here for further information.
