Ride the Sheffield Tram Train and visit the South Yorkshire Transport Museum

Join the Railway Group for a day trip to ride the experimental tram train service in Sheffield and visit the South Yorkshire Transport Museum who are opening their doors just for our visit.

We will catch the 9:10 train from Ilkley to Leeds. No one need feel they are travelling alone.

Details of where to meet on the Ilkley train or at Leeds station will be provided once we know who is coming.

At Leeds we take the 10:38 train to Sheffield Meadowhall before taking the tram train to Rotherham Parkway. Here a heritage bus from the museum collection will take us to the South Yorkshire Transport Museum.

Bring your own picnic to eat at the museum. Tea, coffee, water will be provided. There will be an introduction to the museum covering its history, funding, how it collects and maintains the collection. We are then free to explore all the exhibits. Mainly bus and other road vehicles but plenty to keep any transport enthusiast interested with volunteer staff on hand to answer our questions.

It is anticipated spending a couple of hours at the museum before returning to Rotherham Parkway by heritage bus, catching the Tram Train for a much longer trip to Sheffield Cathedral and then a 10-minute walk back to Sheffield Station. Return time is flexible but the 16:44 service from Sheffield arrives in Leeds 17:44 and Ilkley at 18:36.

The cost of just £10 covers providing the heritage bus from Rotherham Parkway, hot drinks on arrival and a donation to the museum. Details of how to pay will be provided in the email that confirms your registration for the visit. Unfortunately refunds on cancellation are only possible if we are able to fill your place with another applicant.

Buy your own rail ticket. An anytime return Ilkley to Sheffield with a Senior Rail Card is currently £15:85. Our West Yorkshire Metro passes cover the cost of using the Sheffield Trams.
