Martin Peagram will talk about the life of Captain James Cook. Born in Malton, Yorkshire, in 1728 he was an explorer, cartographer and naval officer best known for his three voyages of discovery in the Pacific and to Australia and New Zealand between 1768 and 1779.
To say these voyages were challenging would be an understatement but it is also difficult to overestimate his achievements.
Martin will also speak about the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum which was founded in 1978 in Marton to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Cook’s birth.
BIO: Martin Peagram is chairman of the Captain Cook Birthplace Trust. He will be accompanied by his wonderful hearing dog Inca.
