Hoghton Tower
A medieval home with family history and priest holes. The hall was built by Gilbert de Southworth in 1325 and was the primary home of the Southworth family until the early 17th century. It still retains notable features of a Grade 1 listed Medieval Manor House, including priest holes. It too is said to be haunted
Access: Both buildings are historic and have some uneven surfaces. Both visits involve some walking and standing, and neither building has a lift to the upper floors. Entry to Hoghton Tower is either via two flights of external courtyard steps without handrails or a single flight of narrow steeper steps with a handrail. Entry to Samlesbury Hall is level.
Refreshments: morning coffee at Hoghton Tower, hot lunch at the Boar's Head, Hoghton included in cost
