If you think Bradford is a place of little interest, this visit will change your perception. The legacy of being the textile and woollen centre of the world is very evident in its architecture, much of which still survives. It was one of the richest cities in Europe in the 19th Century and was honoured with city status on the occasion of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897.
We will walk at a gentle pace but there are steps and a bit of a hill as we enter Little Germany. We will cover nearly two miles before lunch and a further mile afterwards. So expect to arrive home around 4 pm unless you want to linger over a cup of tea. Refreshments:
Morning coffee in the Midland Hotel and a buffet lunch in the historic restored underground tunnels at Sunbridgewells included in the price. Buy your own drinks at lunch time.
Meeting arrangements:
Travelling on the Wharfedale Line, meet in the first carriage (near the front) of the 9:23 train from Ilkley to Bradford Forster Square. From Ilkley and Ben Rhydding an all-day return ticket will cost £8:40 (£5:50 with senior rail card). From Burley, Menston and Guiseley, use your Metro Card for an even cheaper return fare as the train departs these stations after 9:30 am.
Travelling on the Aire Valley Line, there is a direct service leaving Keighley 9:18, Bingley, 9:24 and Shipley 9:31 But do check before you travel. Times and prices do change since this visit was planned.
Cost:
£16 plus the cost of travelling to Bradford. The email confirming your booking will provide details of how to pay.
