Experience a typical full day out with the Voyagers group. Our monthly outings visit two places of interest that are not usually open to individuals, with lunch in between.
Cutlers' Hall
The coach for this 'taster' outing will pick up in Addingham, Ilkley, Ben Rhydding, Burley and Otley before starting the day at Carr Gate Garden Centre for morning coffee/tea and biscuits. Our morning visit will be at the Cutlers' Hall in Sheffield where we have a guided tour. The Cutlers' Company is one of the most ancient of the City of London livery companies, receiving its Royal Charter in 1416. Its function was to protect the interests of its members and to ensure that high standards of quality were maintained. Over time their emphasis has shifted from knives and swords to cutlery, other domestic wares such as razors and scissors, and surgical instruments.
Renishaw Hall
We shall have lunch at Renishaw Hall in Derbyshire, home of the Sitwell family, after which we have a guided tour of the Hall. The original manor house was built in the 1620s by George Sitwell, a wealthy ironmaster. His descendants were quiet, scholarly country gentlemen who quietly managed the estate – and married heiresses. When Sitwell Sitwell inherited Renishaw in the 18 th century he had an immense fortune and embarked on extending the Hall and filling it with the finest furniture, paintings and tapestries. The Literary Trio – the writers and poets Edith, Osbert and Sacheverell – were key 20th century cultural figures who championed the avant-garde with determination and great gusto. Their personalities are evident in the quirkiness of the house's interiors.
The cost of this outing is £49.99 which is all inclusive, covering the coach, morning coffee, both admissions and tours, lunch and all gratuities. A reasonable level of fitness is needed as a fair amount of walking is involved.

First pick-up at 7.20, last at 8.00.

Tour of Renishaw Hall 14.00.

We will be using the u3a audio tour guide system so please bring your own headphones. Any that use a standard 3.5 mm jack plug, often provided with portable music players or mobile phones will work.
