This is an ancient and fascinating church, with a history stretching back to and beyond medieval times. We will have a guided tour of the church led by local historian and parochial church councillor, Allan Boddy. In addition to the fabric of the building we will also see the many notable memorials in the church and the pre-Conquest stone fragments which have recently been re-presented so that they are better displayed and explained for visitors.
Allan has said: ‘I will be presenting the history of the church by highlighting a feature from every century starting with the Dragon Cross from the 8thcentury and ending with the new nave communion table from the 21stcentury. ‘
Also, in the churchyard, take time to find the Irish Diaspora memorial stone and the Navvies’ Memorial to commemorate those who lost their lives building the nearby Bramhope tunnel (1845-1849).
Meet: 10.30am At the church, which is on Kirkgate, Otley LS21 3HW
