We will examine a selection of the most important prehistoric carvings on Green Crag Slack, the plateau above the Cow and Calf Rocks. Their state of preservation was last assessed in 2011, so we will decide if they have changed in the last ten years. If there has been any deterioration we will report it to Historic England, as they are all Scheduled Ancient Monuments. The ascent to Green Crag Slack is steep, but once there the ground is relatively flat, though uneven. Wear suitable clothing and footwear - it is always colder on the moor than in the town and there is no shelter if it rains! Bring a drink and snack for a mid-morning break. Starting from the car park at the Cow and Calf Rocks at 9.30 am
