The term The Silk Route has intrigued me since I was a teenager. The Northern Silk Route was a trading route from 130 BC until 1453 AD when the Ottoman Empire boycotted this route, which had lasted almost 1,600 years.
The collapse of the USSR, as the Federal State of Northern Eurasia, in 1991 after 69 years opened up the possibility of travel in an area of diversity geographically, climatically & culturally.
This talk in two parts recalls a fascinating journey from Xian-an ancient capital of China - through Xijiang: the Uighur Autonomous Region of North Western China, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan before travel on some of the route again became restricted and inadvisable. This booking is for Part 1– From Xian to the Kyrgyzstan border. Part 2 on 28 November should be booked separately.
Admire ancient architecture, cultural practices and an introduction to areas often misunderstood by the Western World.
