ILKLEY & DISTRICT u3a

Volunteer after Retirement with u3a

in Ilkley, Otley, Guiseley and surrounding areas

Why do members volunteer?

Retirement gives many people something they never had during working life—time to choose how they spend their days. For many of our members, helping a little with u3a becomes one of the most enjoyable parts of membership:

  • "Helping with refreshments introduced me to more friends than I ever expected."
  • "Leading a walking group gave me a new purpose after retiring."
  • "I volunteer because I enjoy it—not because anyone asked me to."

Volunteering is one of the benefits of joining u3a
  • Meet more people
  • Make lasting friendships
  • Keep mentally active
  • Put a lifetime of experience to good use
  • Learn new skills
  • Increase confidence
  • Feel part of something bigger
  • Give back to your community

Welcoming visitors at events

You don't have to take on a big job.

  • Welcoming visitors to the Saturday talks or at our drop in sessions
  • Helping with refreshments
  • Organising a visit
  • Helping at the annual Showcase
  • Helping to run an interest group

Volunteering comes in all shapes and sizes

  • Ten minutes: Welcome people at a Saturday talk
  • One morning: Help at Showcase
  • Once a month: Help with refreshments
  • Occasionally: Organise a visit or a walk
  • Regularly: Help run a group

Volunteers at Ilkley Station

There is no expectation that members volunteer.
But if everyone does just a little, together we create something remarkable.
