IlkleyU3A on Twitter
February 2020. Ilkley & District U3A extends its Social Media presence. Members will know that in early January we launched a Facebook page. Now we are reactivating a Twitter Account which had been left dormant for several years.
Why do we need a social media presence?
So why do we need both Twitter and Facebook?
They work in different ways. Some folk will have accounts with one and not the other so we are extending our reach to different audiences.
Twitter is all about real-time conversation. The snappy nature of tweets means that Twitter is widely used by smartphone users who don't want to read long content items on-screen.
Facebook is more of an ongoing conversation and making connections with friends, colleagues and family members to keep in touch.
Why might I want a Twitter account?
With an account you can receive updates from anyone or any organisation that you choose to follow. So, for instance, you can follow the local newspaper and receive links to online stories that you might have missed. Similarly, following the Twitter account of your football team will keep you updated on team news, latest scores etc.
Another useful feature is to follow trends across different Twitter accounts, often using hashtags (#). So you can search, for instance, for Ilkley (or #Ilkley) and see what others are saying about our town. This feature is often used for events, for example #U3ADay.
Do I need an account to see Ilkley U3A on Twitter?
