The Swinging 60's Music Scene |
Description: |
They say if you can remember the sixties you weren't there – it's not true – we were and we can – sort of. We prove it by meeting each week to sing and play a selection of songs from that era. S60s is a gathering of musicians and singers working our way through a changing mix of sixties centred pop and rock songs using voices and mostly acoustic instruments. We have singers, guitarists, singer guitarists and occasionally percussion and the odd bass player and have a playlist prepared for each week with about 10 songs on it, chosen by one of the group. If we have time after that we add in favourites or new ones we'd like have a go at. We use a database of songs with each person using a tablet or phone for the lyrics and chords. We do usually try and work a little bit on the song structures (intro, middle and end) and very occasionally a few members who wish to will perform at events such as Ilkley Live. We have good fun and enthusiasm is an essential. If bringing an instrument, a basic knowledge of chords is required. We do not teach as such – but there are some skilled musicians involved who can help and guide where needed. You do need a tablet or a smart phone to access the songs. Here is an example of something we did during lockdown: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3zhaT1mrMQ |
