Name:

Reading Helpers Project

Description:

Ilkley U3A has engaged with local primary schools and one preparatory school in devising an arrangement whereby U3A members can listen to individual pupils reading aloud. Opportunities for members to become involved may generally arise twice a year: at Spring Bank Holiday for a September start; and at Christmas for a post February Half Term start. The time gaps are needed for volunteers to acquire Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance and for a familiarisation/induction visit to a school before starting. Whether or not an opportunity will arise for a volunteer, depends upon: a current reader helper giving notice; the times required by a school; and the available times of the volunteer.
