Jazz Appreciation |
Description: |
Do you enjoy jazz? Do you think it would be fun listening to all forms of jazz with a group of like-minded individuals? If so, then please come along and see if it’s a group that’s for you. After the success of our first year, we are restarting our meetings in February and have a limited number of vacancies for new members. You do not have to be an expert - you are very welcome with little or no knowledge, just a desire to engage with and learn more. We cover all periods from the early routes in New Orleans to present day. Jazz is also very diverse - it has many forms and links to other genres, such as blues and soul, so it’s likely everyone can connect with it in some way or another. A typical meeting comprises 8-12 members sharing track selections along a particular theme e.g. artist, era or particular instrument. We also have special guests coming to share their experiences - last term our guests included the highly acclaimed local singer Beverley Beirne, discussing the role of voice in jazz, and Steve Crocker (Jazz Leeds) who talked about the jazz in the Leeds over the years, and demonstrated the use of bass. |
