u3a Fitness Hub Launch Event

We all know that keeping fit in later life is very beneficial. So your management committee is delighted to have come to an arrangement with the Fitness Studio at Ilkley Tennis Club specifically designed for u3a members.

Our Launch Event is your opportunity to sign-up for a Fitness Hub activity either as a taster or 8 weekly sessions. You will hear from the Fitness Studio Manager who will explain what’s involved with the 3 different types of activity on offer - Moving Freely, Spin and Pilates.

There will be a chance to look round the fitness studios. We are hoping to make make the event a relaxed social occasion. The Café Bar will be open and we will provide nibbles.

The launch event is restricted to 70 members so register your attendance now to avoid disappointment. You will receive email confirmation.

The Studio has a team of instructors who are experts in designing programmes for different age groups and they can tailor the sessions to our requirements. They know that many of us are out of breath when we climb the stairs, some of us have difficulty getting out of a chair but a few of us are striding 15 miles across the Dales.

They have suggested three activities to start with.  Within each activity the instructors will cater for different levels of starting fitness.

  • Move Freely: 1 hour session Tuesdays 1pm
A low level, low impact exercise class suitable for people who want to become more active and improve their wellbeing.
  • Spin: 1 hour session Fridays 1pm

These sessions make use of the club’s large bike spinning studio. This is low impact exercise that is good for all round fitness. Choose soft spin or take on more demanding exercise depending on your fitness.

  • Pilates: 1 hour session Thursdays 1pm

Pilates is ideal for improving general fitness. Gentler Pilates exercises aim to improve balance and posture as well as muscle tone. If you are ready for more demanding routines the instructor will show you these.  The sessions are suitable for Pilates beginners whatever your level of fitness.

Taster Sessions

You can sign-up for a single session of any of the activities to try it out. But note that if the class is full, priority will be given to members signing up for all 8 weeks.

When you are at the club you are welcome to stay on with your fellow class members for a chat and a drink in the Café Bar.

Launch Event

If you are interested in any of these sessions or others that may be planned, come along to the tennis club on Friday afternoon 4.15- 6pm 25th November.  This will be a chance to look round the facilities, hear more about the u3a Fitness Hub from the Health and Fitness Manager and sign-up for your class or taster session.  We are hoping to make this a relaxed social occasion.  You can buy a drink at the bar and we are providing complimentary nibbles.


The cost will be £3 per session over an 8 week term - £24 in total.  During the launch evening you can sign-up and pay for all 8 sessions which will guarantee a place. Or, if you are unsure, sign-up for a taster session at the cost of £3.  Please bring your credit card, cheque book or cash.
