Civic Society coffee morning and talk on Bridge Lane, Ilkley

Alex Cockshott of Ilkley Civic Society will be giving a talk on Bridge Lane in Ilkley and its history, dating from Roman times.

For centuries, Bridge Lane has led down to the bridge beyond the ancient ford. The bridge we use today replaced one swept away in floods in 1673.

On the far bank the path came down from Middleton. Perhaps travellers late at night might have been guided by light shining from the small window at the back of the Old Castle – now the Manor House
